We are thrilled to announce that the Dai Foundation has partnered with Januar, a trusted payment institution, to ensure compliant payment and fiat account services in support of the services the foundation delivers for the decentralised Maker protocol.

The Dai Foundation will use Januar to execute payment transactions in support of its mission to protect the Maker Community’s IP.

MakerDAO is a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) and a decentralised finance (DeFi) protocol built on the Ethereum blockchain. MakerDAO is best known for creating and governing the stablecoin called Dai.

Dai is a decentralised, collateral-backed cryptocurrency designed to maintain a stable peg to the US dollar. At the time of writing the Dai stablecoin is the 17th largest cryptocurrency with a current market cap of close to $5 billion.

MakerDAO and the Dai stablecoin offer individuals and businesses the ability to transact and store value in a cryptocurrency that is not subject to the same volatility as other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. It provides a stable medium of exchange and a store of value that can be used in various decentralised applications and platforms within the Ethereum ecosystem.

“When we founded Januar back in 2021, one of my personal and professional ambitions were to ensure Januar could work with the DAO-related companies and foundations who are out there coding up new forms of governance and democracy on the blockchain. 2 years later it is great to see this actually happening and at the same time have it be on the basis of dialogue with the Danish Department of Civil Affairs. “, says Simon Ousager, co-CEO at Januar.

“The Dai Foundation are the original pioneers of decentralised governance and being able to announce The Dai Foundation as our first DAO-related client is super exciting not just for me, but the entire team here at Januar ”, says Simon Ousager, co-CEO at Januar.

Danish Foundations are held to high standards under the scrutiny of the Danish Department of Civil Affairs, the regulatory authority for funds and part of the Danish Department of Justice. I am therefore happy to announce that our dialogue with the Danish Authorities have confirmed our belief that we can utilise Januar as our financial partner. This conclusion solidifies our confidence in Januar's services, and we are excited to embark on this new partnership journey with them.", says Søren Peter Nielsen, Chairman of the Board.

Januar is a leading payment institution dedicated to providing innovative payment solutions to crypto businesses. By partnering with the Dai Foundation, Januar expands its reach into the crypto industry and continues to deliver reliable and secure payment and account services to a broader range of clients.

This partnership between Dai Foundation and Januar represents a significant milestone for Januar. It is a testament to the quality of the compliance-first product we have built in support of the crypto industry and an honour for our team to serve the pioneers of decentralisation from the Maker community.

About Dai Foundation

The Dai Foundation is an independent legal entity for safeguarding the Maker community’s intellectual property (IP). It was created in Denmark and operates solely on the basis of objective and rigid statutes that define its mandate. In the beginning of 2020, the Maker Foundation irreversibly transferred the ownership of Maker and Dai trademarks to the Dai Foundation for safekeeping.

The Dai Foundation has been formed by the initiators of the open, decentralised and permissionless MakerDAO system with the virtual currency Dai. Its purpose is to safeguard what cannot be technologically decentralised in the Maker Protocol which includes trademarks and other intellectual property, such as open-source copyrights and other relevant assets.
