What are webhooks?

Webhooks are an increasingly powerful and popular tool when building API integrations that provide a simple and lightweight way for applications, without having to continually be polling a service, to listen for events and assist in automating API based workflows.

How do webhooks work?

With webhooks, clients utilising the Januar Customer API can subscribe to any new event happening on their account, such as new payins or returned payouts. Additionally, API users can also use webhooks to build out accompanying actions, such as updating a database or improving a user experience by providing real-time updates or notifications. When an event occurs, the Januar platform will send a notification to a client webhook endpoint. The notification will contain information about the event, such as the event type, the event date, and any associated data.

What are the benefits of using webhooks?

Webhooks are a powerful tool that can be used to listen for events and optimise client workflows:

• Real-time notifications: Webhooks can be used to generate real-time notifications of events such as notifying a client of a successful deposit immediately upon revealing the event notification.  
• Automating workflows: Webhooks can be used to automate API workflows involving data being shared across multiple systems, using the events as triggers, thereby saving time and operational resources.  
• Increased flexibility: Webhooks provide clients with complete flexibility in how they are utilised across a variety of events and specified actions. As a user, you are free to decide which events to listen for and base actions upon. 
• Scalability: Webhooks are scalable and can be used to handle a significant volume of events, making them ideal for use with large-scale applications.
